About Gold Coast
Property Photography

Jamie Auld, Gold Coast Property Photography - Real Estate PhotographerHello, my name is Jamie Auld and I am the owner and photographer of Gold Coast Property Photography. Since starting my photography career back in 2009, I often found myself covering the ‘normal’ photography avenues; such as weddings and portraiture, despite having a passion for the architectural side of the industry. But in 2012, thanks to some not-so-subtle pushing, I was given an opportunity to have a go at a real estate photo session and since then, I have never looked back.

Since 2013 when I made my big break into the real estate industry, I have been able to make a real impact into the industry throughout the central and southern Gold Coast. As I’m always looking for what is the new trend or style, I keep myself up to date to try and make each property look as attractive as possible.

My Shooting Process

With many photographers now using High Dynamic Range (HDR) images as well as more and more exporting their images to third party editors both within Australia and overseas, I think it is really important to defy these new ‘powerhouse’ styles by keeping the shooting, editing and delivery process under one roof. By utilising a mixture of traditional lighting techniques, as well as the power of processing software, I take great pride in re-creating each area of a property in the best and most accurate detail possible.

Now, you may be asking, “What is High Dynamic Range photography?”. High Dynamic Range, or HDR as it is more commonly known, is where multiple images of a single area are photographed at different exposures then blended into one final image. This is a common feature in modern phones and tablets and allows the user to capture all levels of natural light available. Sounds good doesn’t it? The problem is, in real life we have super dark shadows, super bright lights and everything in between. This is what gives us dimension, depth and most importantly contrast, with everything being an flat exposure, you lose much of that contrast and clarity which often end up with odd artefacts in the image (burnt colours, over saturated yellows, obscure shadows).

By photographing the interiors of all properties with a mixture of ambient lighting and artificial lights such as flashes, we can avoid these obscurities that tend to happen when corners are cut in the photographic process. Creating my own hybrid version of this technique, it has allowed me to find the delicate mix between capturing a standard image and creating something exceptional. Using some of his teachings, mixed with my own style and traditional lighting, clients go from feeling the images are  “good images” to “the client was ecstatic with the images”.

I believe that when you find a balance that gives you such consistently happy clients, why change it?

Is GCPP right for me?

You may be wondering with the plethora of photographers around the Gold Coast, what is the difference between what I provide verses what others may offer. Aside from the benefits of high quality flash photography, Gold Coast Property Photography specialises in properties that are going to be presented and prepared for the photo session.

Many people believe that mass digital manipulation is now a standard in photography. Though removing an entire room full of damaged or unappealing furniture to make it appear empty is possible with modern editing software, it is not something that is readily available at Gold Coast Property Photography.

Why? I pride myself in providing my clients the highest quality images possible to with each and every property I shoot. Unfortunately, heavy digital manipulation has proven itself to be inconsistent with the end product and relies heavily on the available information within the photograph to replace these areas. With that, you also tend to end up with patterns that look fake and people do often become suspicious of the images and can result in less inquiry.

Though in some circumstances I can organise extensive editing for you at an additional cost, it is highly recommended to take that extra step in presenting your property prior to the photo session. To assist with this I have developed a Property Presentation Checklist which is a helpful step-by-step guide in making the most of every photo session. This has been designed with everyone in mind, from owner occupiers to tenants without making the goal unachievable, in fact, many people use the checklist as a guide to help them keep their property at its best from the photo shoot right through to Open Homes.
